Editorial:

Happy Fall! I hope you enjoyed your summer and all the activities that came with it.  I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some exciting news!  We have designed an Affirm and Learn Program for Children.

This is a program that motivates children to learn and enjoy studying. The Affirm and Learn Program stirs the creativity in the students and motivates them to learn more as well as have fun studying new things. Students learn how to think positive, happy thoughts, how to work in teams, respect and interact with other students.

In this program there are many writing and oral assignments, class interaction, exercises and various projects to assist the student to learn. They will learn new positive words and exercises to help them be happier, more relaxed and open to learning and achieving self-growth. They will also be encouraged to draw, write skits, poems and stories. The best ones will be awarded prizes and also be published in this Passport 2000 Newsletter.

The Affirm and Learn Program is based on positive thinking and affirmations. Affirmations are simply goals or wishes; only they are more structured and specific. To affirm is to make firm and the basis of all affirmations is positive thinking.

We have also created an Affirmation Family to help students learn by focusing on a visual image (Drawing or puppets).

The Affirmation Family is as follows:

  • Aff, the father

  • Irm, the mother,

  • Ation, the son,

  • Mai, the daughter,

  • Shortform, the Dog and

  • Master, the Cat.

It is with great pleasure and delight that we present the Affirm and Learn Program!  We will be doing a pilot in an elementary school in Washington State this year.

If anyone is interested in finding out more about this wonderful, positive, uplifting program for children, please do send us your e-mails. We are always open to ideas, suggestions and welcome your comments.

Coming Soon (in the same vein):

The Affirm and Learn Correspondence Course for Adults. This is an Affirmation Course designed to help you learn all about affirmations – what they are, how they work, when to do them, how to do them and most importantly... how to make them work for you!

In our next newsletter we will give you the particulars. We will give you a thumbnail sketch of the course and contact people, etc. We are very excited about this course and we know you will not want to miss this forthcoming information!!  Stay tuned . . .

Dear Anne Marie:

We had another argument last night. Rob stormed out of the house, as he was angry at me because I spent too much money. I know I shouldn’t have spoken to my mother on the phone in England for that long, but she had been ill. I tried to explain it to him. When he came back I told him he needed a Valium to settle down and he told me that I needed to read your book on Affirmations! He had picked it up at the Quay several days ago and had been reading it.

He put the book on my dresser. There it stayed for the past six weeks. Recently we went fishing with our friends at Kentucky Lake near Merritt, B.C. We got there in our motor home quite early and as soon as possible, Rob jumped into the boat and went out fishing on the lake. I was bored. Our friends would not arrive until 6:30 p.m. and it was only 12:30. Oh well, I thought I will grab my bag of magazines make a cup of coffee, read and relax.

I could not find my bag of magazines! I searched the motor home high and low. I came to the conclusion that I must have left them on the table at home. I started going through the papers in the motor home. I found old maps, crossword puzzles and a year old Enquirer Magazine.

I read and re-read that magazine from cover to cover. I went to get some more suntan lotion from my overnight case and when I was reaching for it, my hand came upon your Affirmations book! What in the world was it doing in my over-night make-up case? How did it get there? Then a light went on in my head -- of course my dear husband Rob had put it there, hoping that I would read it! I won’t, I won’t I won’t! I sat and stared at your book for about half an hour. Then I went for a walk. I came back washed the lunch dishes, fixed my hair and drank another cup of coffee.

Then I broke down. I picked it up and started to read. Can this stuff really work, I thought? What is she talking about? The more I read the more interested I became, until I became totally immersed in the book. I did not hear Rob come up behind me. He was smiling broadly as he displayed two huge fish. He noticed that I was reading your book, but never said one word.

Our friends arrived shortly and we all had a great time and then went home. Three weeks later when my first affirmation came true, I told Rob what I had been doing. Now both he and I are affirming like mad. It worked! He got a raise in pay, my mother’s health improved, we received some unexpected cash in the mail and my disposition got better! Now we are jointly affirming for a new vehicle! Do you think we believe we will get it? We sure do!

P.S. I just wanted you to know, Anne Marie that marital bliss has once again returned to our home. I also wanted you to know that you accompanied us on our fishing trip to Kentucky Lake!

Suzie

Dear Suzie:

Thank you for your interesting letter. I never question the Universe when things like this happen. I am so happy affirmations are working for you. Keep on doing them and Oh yes, it is always good to do the following affirmation to keep your marriage happy  and on track.

Rob and I deserve and now have and enjoy a lasting, happy, fulfilling, healthy, loving marriage to the good of all parties concerned. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. And thank you for the wonderful trip!!

Love Anne Marie

Prophetic Dreams: Are They for Real? By Jennifer Wohl, Ph.D.

One night last January, I dreamed I was moving back to the States (where I am from) and wanted to say goodbye to Jeff, a man I worked with over ten years ago when I lived in Boston. He was sitting in a parked car, talking to another friend, and I didn't want to disturb them, so I walked on. I started crying because I had not had a chance to say goodbye and I would soon be leaving. Five days after I had this dream, Jeff was killed in the Kenya Air flight that crashed off the coast of Africa, killing all 169 people aboard. Coincidence? It could  have been, but I don't think so. I had not spoken to or dreamed about Jeff in many years. We had been congenial colleagues when we worked together, but we had not had a close relationship. If the dream was prophetic, why had it come to me?

I may never know the answer to this question, but this dream and other seemingly prophetic dreams suggest that when we sleep, we tap into a mysterious and profound universal wisdom. The dreamscape is a place where everything is possible and where the past, present, and future meet in the Now. Of course, prophetic dreams do not become prophetic until we look back on them later. I could not have determined that the dream about Jeff was a harbinger of tragedy to come. And for every dream I have that speaks of things to come, I have probably thousands that speak only about my current inner dynamics. If I worried every time I dreamed of my separation from someone I cared about, I would be anxious indeed.

In her book The Hidden Power of Dreams, author Denise Linn says that any dream that allows you to look into the future, view the past, communicate with loved ones who have passed away, gain a vision, or enter into other dimensions is a "seeing" dream. She says, "These special kinds of dreams expand your horizons into the realms beyond ordinary perception of reality. They allow you to reach below the surface of the human mind, to the place where the world is not made of separate parts but it is seamlessly joined in a rich tapestry of interrelatedness."

Jeff was only 43 years old when he died. He had a wife and two children. And what a kind-hearted man he was. His death was tragic indeed. But Linn's description of "special" dreams encourages me to think that my dream was telling me that Jeff and I were in the process of moving to different dimensions of the Universe, to different "states." In the world of the limitless dreamscape, Jeff and I are still part of that rich tapestry of interrelatedness.

Jennifer Wohl is currently completing a master's degree in psychology with a focus on dreams (her PhD is in agricultural economics). She has been recording her dreams for over 20 years and has been experimenting with dream work for the past 6. Jennifer leads dream workshops in Vancouver and offers private dream-analysis sessions. The Phoenix News Network presents Ask Anne Marie -- The Affirmation Column (Re-printed with permission from Nicole M. Whitney, Publisher of Solution Oriented News, The Phoenix North Shore Edition -- August, 2000).

The Affirmation Column:

Dear Anne Marie:

I have a copy of your book on Affirmations and I read your column regularly. I found the Angel Letter Method you spoke about in your column for the past two months very intriguing. I used the Angel Letter Method on my husband when we had an argument. As I was writing out my Angel Letters, I had a very strong feeling that I should bake an Angel Food Cake for my husband and I. My question is what thoughts should I be putting into the ingredients when I am baking the cake? I thought about saying, "Please give me a sign if Jeff and I are meant to stay together." What words would you suggest that I use? Tami

Dear Tami:

What a great idea! I just love the idea of adding another dimension when doing the Angel Letter Method. Actually you would be adding the sense of taste to the exercise. I would suggest using the following words. "Divine Love, Divine Order and Divine Wisdom in my marriage." Think these thoughts and words while making the Angel Food cake and allow them to blend in with your ingredients. Then enjoy eating it with Jeff knowing than you are sharing these wonderful, powerful words with him in this very creative, interesting process.

I would not say "Please give me a sign if you and Jeff are meant to be together" is that statement could be construed as being negative. Please let me know how the whole process works for you! Happy Affirming -- Anne Marie

Dear Anne Marie:

You have encouraged me for the past year. You have been an earth angel to me and you have inspired and encouraged me. I am so grateful for your friendship and kindness. Your book, Passport to Happiness has taught me to thank God and the Universe every day for all my blessings. I thought I had the affirmation process just right, however it was not until I read your book and spoke to you personally that I realized I had overlooked some very important factors in my daily regime of doing affirmations. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Bettie

Dear Bettie:

Thank you so very much for your kind letter. We all do need encouragement. Please keep on doing affirmations and living in an attitude of gratitude for all your blessings. When we do this, we open the floodgates of Heaven for even more blessings. Also more gathers more and when we say thank you, we obligate the planet for more happiness. I, too thank God daily for my blessings.

Anne Marie

Ask Caroline Ryker Advice Column:

(Caroline is on holidays this month).

Wake Up! - By John Waye:

Once upon a time, when I was a child, I went to sleep and I didn’t wake up for about thirty years. No, I’m not Sleeping Beauty and this is no fairy tale. Most people sleepwalk through their lives without realizing it.

We weren’t always this way. As children, we were open to exploring our environment and loved to learn. However, our school system often kills this love of learning. As children, we may have come confused by watching the adults around us who acted in irrational ways. We may have had unfulfilled emotional needs that caused us to shrink our consciousness down to a narrow band leaving us cut off from the wide range of emotional experiences.

Consciousness is not a matter of black or white, asleep or awake, but a matter of degree. The level of our consciousness varies from day to day, hour to hour and minute to minute. Anyone who drives a car regularly has experienced driving a regular route, like from home to work, and, upon arrival, not remembering the trip. Contrast that with the first time you drove a car. Remember how aware you were of everything. You may have even turned off the car radio to facilitate your concentration. That level of awareness would be difficult to maintain and you probably wouldn’t want to. There are a lot of things we have to do on automatic pilot to get by in our society.

The problem is that most people live their whole lives on autopilot, rarely experiencing their feelings and never stopping to consider their lives’ purpose. Thoreau said the unexamined life is not worth living.

The truth of this theory is obvious if we look at the world around us. Do you think that if most people were operating on a fully conscious level that we would be destroying our environment? It is not as if we have another planet to move to after we finished destroying this one. Most people are in denial about the environmental problem despite all the evidence. Even among those who acknowledge an environmental problem; there are people who are unable or unwilling to do anything about it. This is just another form of denial

Denial is a symptom of sleepwalking. What are you in denial about in your life? I was married for five years and was in denial about the relationship the whole time. Even worse, we had lived together for several months before we got married and we didn’t get along, but got married anyway. Now that is denial!

The breakup of my marriage had to be my awakening. It made me examine my life and I opened up to new ideas. Around them, I read a book by P.D. Duspensky called In Search of the Miraculous. It is a deep and complete book but one of the things he wrote about was self-remembering.

The concept of remembering oneself seemed strange to me at first, but it grew on me as I thought about it more. It is about being fully present in the moment and fully aware.

Of course most people do not realize they are sleepwalking. However, even if they did, I wonder how many would choose to wake up. Such a decision would lead to difficult choices. They might have to do something about those relationships that are not working and those jobs that are not fulfilling. It may be more comfortable to stay asleep.

Living life consciously, though, enables you to experience your life fully with all its ups and down. This is your life after all. It is not a dress rehearsal. Choosing to wake up is an act of self-love and a commitment to the value of your life.

So, wake up!

Publisher’s Comments

John is a friend and colleague of mine. Thank you very much for your interesting ideas!

John brings out some very important factors. I wonder how many of us are living our lives half asleep on living them on lay-away. As he says it is very important to live in the now. Spread today’s jam thick on your bread today and do not try to saw yesterday’s sawdust! Isn’t it better to be a fully functioning individual instead of a sleepy, uninterested human? Do you have any comments?

Lets Make Miracles - With Maya:

Murder, mayhem and natural disasters. We watch these horrors on the news before we go to sleep. We wonder why we have nightmares and wake up feeling fatigued and discouraged. Countless, wonderful things happen to every one of us each day. Yet, societal pressures encourage us to focus on negativity.

Recall the innocence of childhood. If you have difficulty remembering your own childhood, think about children you have observed. To children, anything is possible. In the blink of an eye, a child can be a super hero saving the world, or a rich, famous movie star. The possibilities are limited only by imagination. When was the last time you knew your possibilities were limited only by your imagination?

Miracles occur regularly in all our lives! Children innately realize this. Adults know this, but often lose touch with their abilities to recognize miracles. Adults have been conditioned to be mature, serious and responsible. Sometimes we let our guards down and become playful, only to be condemned by others. I recall an event that occurred a few years ago. I was in my late thirties and I have always enjoyed loud music. I was driving with my teenage daughter and her friends. I turned the music up and ‘boogied’ while we were sitting at an intersection. My daughter was embarrassed. She looked at me disdainfully and stated reproachfully, ‘Mom, you are too old to do that.” Her friend said, “That is cool, I wish my mom liked loud music.” I am pleased to report I still enjoy loud music. My daughter has accepted my eccentricities and I believe she will one day appreciate my ‘joie de vivre.”  The miracle in this situation was that I experienced pure, unadulterated Joy.  My action in no way damaged another person and I felt free and alive.

I believe we frequently overlook miracles that happen to us or around us on a daily basis.

The Universe is Abundant. One of the fundamental Universal Principles is ‘more gathers more.” This is true for both negativity and positivity. The more frequently we acknowledge our blessings and miracles, regardless of how trivial they may seem, the more frequently we will be astounded by miracles in our lives. The more we celebrate Life, the more we will have to celebrate!

I invite you to join me in acknowledging everyday ‘miracles’ thereby creating more miracles in all our lives!

Poem - Lets Make Miracles:

Miracles happen in all manner of ways
Creating hopefulness, joy and inspiration.
Delivered to us to brighten our days
Our true path to inner realization

Lets make miracles together, you and I,
We can start with recognition
It is simple if we choose to try
Realization, Gratitude and Celebration!
