Reciprocal Links & Link Exchanges


    Some Basic Do's and Dont's For Internet Marketing:

  1. Do not rely on the Internet Search Engines for marketing your website, but do use them as a supplement to your overall Internet marketing plan.

     

  2. Do List your company and or personal website with the top Internet Search Engines as this is a very important part of your Internet marketing plan; however do not lose sight that the Internet cannot and should not be your only Internet marketing tool. Consider the fact that hundreds of new websites spring up on the Internet everyday; as such it is almost impossible to have your website remain ranked at the top of the Search Engines. The term "build it and they will come" is thrown around perhaps too much; as a business owner and or marketer you would never rely on just one medium for marketing your services or products so why would you think that Internet marketing would be any different.

     

  3. Do not Spam Internet Search Engines to better your rating, or to increase your hit or traffic count; they are smarter than we think they are...

     

  4. Do find out what an Internet Search Engines guide lines are and then follow them to the letter of the law. It'll be good for you, your Internet community and your Internet marketing results.

  5. Do use proper Keyword and Meta Tag usage. If you are found to be Spaming a Search Engine, you will probably have your website dropped from the respective Search Engine. Don't panic... If you clean up your act and ask their forgiveness you will probably be able to get back in... But why take a chance on being dropped the first time...

     

  6. Do seek out and exchange reciprocal links with other website owners. This task may seem daunting at first (use http://www.infoseek.com/ to search for "Reciprocal Links"), but consider that every reciprocal link is like having another satisfied customer give your company a personal reference. Website owners that exchange reciprocal links with you are saying that they liked what they saw at your website and list your reciprocal link because it adds value to their own website. Search engines are still very important in this formula because they start the ball rolling... First a person searches a search engine for something of interest and then they usually visit the first three or four websites that a search engine returns. If you have your reciprocal link listed at one of the sites that they visit, then you also may receive a visit from the person. The key is that even though your website was not listed in their initial search, they may come to your website because of a reciprocal link. A good starting point for building your own reciprocal links, is to search the search engines for topics that relate to your website. Once you find some websites that interest you, then visit them and see if they have any kind of reciprocal linking program. If not, you can then send the website owner an e-mail asking if they would be interested in exchanging reciprocal links. Please note that not all website owners will want to exchange reciprocal links, but many will! Good luck!

     

  7. Do include your e-mail and website address on all marketing materials that you would put your telephone or fax number on. Make it easy for the public to find your website and or send you e-mail. Many people feel nervous about speaking with others, therefore jump on the opportunity to give them a non-verbal way of contacting you. Put your e-mail and website address on everything, business cards, email signatures, stationery, company invoices, product packaging, print advertisements, television commercials, radio and newspaper ads, flyers, brochures, rate sheets, business proposals, classified ads, yellow page ads, local community business directories, company vehicles, outdoor signs, promotional company calendars, telephone recordings, product instruction manuals, customer receipts, bowling league shirts, softball team shirts, etc.

     

  8. Do learn as much as you can about making your Internet business a success. The Internet Marketing Center is a fantastic place to start.
